Saarc summit: No meeting planned yet between Narendra Modi, Nawaz Sharif
Modi will have a Saarc-plus programme when he travels to Nepal for the 18th Saarc Summit on 26-27 November
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have a “Saarc-plus" programme when he travels to Nepal for the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Summit on 26-27 November but there is no meeting planned on the sidelines of the summit with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif so far, the ministry of external affairs said on Friday.
“I can confirm to you that we are working on a Saarc-plus programme" external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.
On being asked whether Modi would meet Sharif on the sidelines of the meeting, he said there was “no proposal" from either side for any meeting between the two.
Since assuming office on 26 May, Modi has been working on a “neighbourhood first" policy and is seen as keen to make Saarc a strong regional grouping.
