Govt advances start date for new auto emissions standards

Mumbai: The government on Saturday moved up the start date for new auto emissions standards.
The Bharat Stage 5 emissions control norms for four-wheeled vehicles will come into effect from April 2019 instead of April 2022, the ministry of road transport and highways said in an e-mailed statement.
Implementation date for Bharat Stage 6 has also been advanced to 2021 instead of 2024.
The ministry also released the draft notifications for implementation of these two emissions standards.
Rules for two- and three-wheeled vehicles will be announced shortly; those implementation dates have also been advanced. Bloomberg
