A video of AAP leader Shazia Ilmi exhorting Muslims to 'become communal' and 'less secular' has sparked controversy
New Delhi: A video of AAP leader Shazia Ilmi exhorting Muslims to “become communal" and “less secular" has sparked controversy.
The video has gone viral on the social media.
Ilmi, who had unsuccessfully contested the Delhi Assembly elections, is AAP’s candidate from Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency.
The video reportedly shows Ilmi having a conversation with members of the Muslim community during which she says, “Other parties have their votebanks intact and Muslim votes split. This is a controversial statement, but we should look at our own interest."
She says Muslims’ votes split, as they were “too secular".
“Don’t be much secular," she says. “Muslims are too secular and they should become communal. They are not communal and do not vote for themselves."
She further adds, “Arvind Kejriwal is ours. Muslims have remained secular for long... have voted for the Congress and helped them win. Don’t be so secular and look at your house (community) this time."
