Largely unnoticed, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has given a big impetus to bridging the infrastructure and connectivity deficit in India’s North-East to both mainland India and to South-East Asia. The cornerstones of the new policy were put down in the railway budget and elaborated in the national budget besides being outlined by key ministers in the cabinet.

What it does is that it recalibrates the context of India’s relations with its most tricky neighbour—China. Mint reviews the relationship.
