Fire at Chatterjee International Center in Kolkata
The fire broke out between the 12th and 15th floors, trapping many people who were unable to come down
Kolkata: A major fire broke out in the 24-floor Chatterjee International Centre building, trapping several people on the top floor of the high-rise which houses many commercial establishments, on Jawaharlal Nehru Road in Kolkata on Tuesday.
“As the fire broke out between the 12th and 15th floors, there were people who were unable to come down. Several fire tender engines have been rushed to the spot," an official of the Kolkata Police said.
“There is no news of any casualty and the cause of the fire or the extent of damage are yet to be ascertained," he said.
Several people were seen throwing clothes and paper from the top floor to catch the attention of fire officials.
Six fire engines have already been rushed to the spot along with two hydraulic ladders, a fire brigade official said. The area has been cordoned off to conduct the operations.
