New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed a fresh perjury application against lawyers Prashant Bhushan and Kamini Jaiswal and their NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation for allegedly making false statements before the Supreme Court against the agency’s chief Ranjit Sinha.

CBI, in its fresh plea, has alleged the two lawyers and the NGO have been “making deliberate and false statements on oath and before the Supreme Court".

Earlier, CBI had moved a similar application before the Supreme Court for lodging a case of perjury against the lawyers for allegedly making “deliberate and intentional false statements on oath" relating to investigations into the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

CBI said the statements are “punishable under various sections of IPC including Section 193".

Bhushan represents and is a member of the governing body member of non-governmental organization CPIL, the main petitioner in the 2G spectrum allocation case before the Supreme Court. CPIL has accused Sinha of scuttling with the 2G investigation and prosecution, and brought on record certain guest registers which allegedly show him meeting with members of companies being investigated at his official residence.

The CBI application filed before the apex court, which will hear the ongoing dispute regarding Sinha’s alleged abuse of power on 22 September, points out four counts of incorrect submissions/statements by CPIL on oath.

CBI has asked for a court direction to register a first information report against Bhushan and Jaiswal “for making deliberate and intentional false statements on oath" before the Supreme Court.
