Rupee sheds 18 paise against dollar
The currency opened at 60.69 per dollar against its Monday's close of 60.59 and touched a low of 60.89 during the session
Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Tuesday weakened against the US dollar, tracking the trend in Asian currency markets.
The rupee closed at 60.77, down 0.29% from previous close. The currency opened at 60.69 against its Monday’s close of 60.59. It touched a high and a low of 60.64 and 60.89, respectively.
The BSE’s benchmark stock index, the Sensex ended at 22,758.37 points on BSE, down 0.03%.
Most Asian currencies ended lower with the Indonesian rupiah down 0.65%, Malaysian ringgit down 0.52%, Singapore dollar down 0.32% Thai baht down 0.26%, Philippines peso down 0.25%.
Since the beginning of this year,the rupee has gained 1.7%, while foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have bought $4.84 billion during the period from local equity markets.
The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bond ended at 8.851%, compared with its Thursday’s close of 8.863%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.
The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 79.839, down 0.13% from the previous close of 79.945.
