Sixth Latin And Ballroom DanceSport Championship

20 September

The sixth edition of the championship by the DanceSport Association of Maharashtra will feature 250 participants aged 9-60 from various parts of the state. The dance forms include salsa, samba, tango, waltz and jive. Among the judges are top DanceSport couple from Malaysia, Zjen Fong Chua and Evon Chong.

Of Bodies, Armour And Cages

Visual artist Shakuntala Kulkarni will talk about the “relationship of the body to the dual notion of protection and entrapment". Her talk will focus on urban women and their space within structures created by patriarchal society. The talk is part of theatre group Junoon’s community arts initiative, Mumbai Local.

The Last Parsi

In this stand-up act, Danesh Irani will caricature an archetypal Parsi ‘bawa’, and the attitudes that define him—he is a true blue blood, the grandson of the queen of England, sent over to Mumbai to blend with the crowd. Irani talks about the issues Parsis face with language, climate, and how a day in the life of a Parsi is.

A New Portraiture

Art Heritage Gallery is hosting an exhibition of portraits featuring various artists. In A Woman’s Agony, Jaya Ganguly moves away from male representation of women as meek or desirable. Rekha Rodwittiya gives expression to her sexual fantasies in surreal landscapes, while Madhvi Parekh explores shakti (power) in female deities. There are also drawings, etchings and paintings by Arpana Caur, Seema Kohli and A. Ramachandran.
